Fishing Boat ‘Robert Louise’ Disabled and Drifting

Robert Louise Robert Louise

Selsey all weather lifeboat Voluntary Worker launched at 8.43am to go to the assistance of a local fishing boat Robert Louise disabled and drifting with gearbox failure in a position approximately half a mile southeast of the station with two male crew aboard.

The lifeboat arrived on scene at 8.46am and quickly passed a tow line. Once the tow was established a course was set for Chichester Harbour and after good progress the harbour entrance was reached at 10.10am.

At 10.25am the Robert Louise’s skipper reported that after making temporary repairs he felt able to continue into the harbour under his own power. The tow was then disconnected at 10.35am and the lifeboat returned to station.

Arriving back on station at 11.35am Voluntary Worker was unable to rehouse straight away due to adverse tidal conditions. The lifeboat was finally rehoused at 2.30pm and once more made ready for service by 3pm.
